Healing from Perfectionism Pt. 3

Yay! You have made it this far into the perfectionism series. Pt. 1 invited us to find the source of our perfectionism tendencies. Pt. 2 helped us find it in our bodies and communicate with it.

In this part, we are going to replace it with something else.

Energetically, we can’t just get rid of a belief or operating mode. It leaves a void in our energetic body that must be filled with something. So, unless we are strategic with a replacement, old ways of being will creep back in. Whether it serves us or not, whatever is familiar is comfortable, so we can count on regressing to our old ways unless there is an intentional force that guides us in a new direction.

What’s an alternative to perfectionism that still fulfills the needs you identified in pt. 1? For example, if perfectionism served as a source of motivation, what can motivate you instead? If it was your way of proving your worth, 1) what makes you worthy now? And 2) is this something you need to prove, or can you be worthy without trying to prove it to everyone and their mama? Can you be worthy simply because you exist?

Pick your replacement and start becoming it. There will be bumps on the road. This is like a new wardrobe you are still figuring out. Offer yourself grace and patience.
