How to Heal: By Not Abandoning Yourself in the Name of Compassion

Compassion is beautiful.
Necessary.
World-changing.

But when compassion becomes a one-way street, it turns into self-abandonment.

If you constantly sacrifice your needs, your rest, your voice, or your vision to help others, you’re not actually healing anyone. You’re slowly disappearing.

We’ve been taught that real care means being selfless. But you are not required to disappear to prove your love.

You get to be generous and grounded.
Supportive and sovereign.
Caring and clear on your boundaries.

Compassion ≠ self-sacrifice.
Do you disappear in others’ needs? That’s not love—it’s self-neglect.

Reflection questions:

  • Where am I giving in ways that drain me?

  • What part of me have I been leaving behind to be “the strong one” or “the helper”?

  • What does healthy compassion for myself look like?

  • What would it feel like to include me in the care I give?

You are allowed to stay whole in your love for others.
Your healing depends on it.
